About Taiken Tila

“Taiken” means “experience” in Japanese.
Our goal is to offer meaningful experiences through accommodation and a variety of activities,
set in a peaceful and tranquil environment surrounded by the traditional Finnish countryside.

Taiken Tila offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in double rooms,
with a spacious lounge featuring a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen.

The property also includes a wood-heated outdoor sauna.

Our facilities are suitable for both individual guests and groups.
They are ideal not only for parties and everyday stays, but also for meetings, gatherings, workshops, events,
and even remote work surrounded by Finland’s pristine nature.

The surrounding area offers plenty to see and experience, including
a world-famous ski trail maintained by the Riihon Village Association,
fish-rich lakes and rivers, forests abundant in natural resources,
the Himmaa observation tower and nature trail,
and the beautiful horses and adorable foals of Koivikon Hevostila.

How to get to Taiken Tila

Please travel by train from Helsinki–Vantaa Airport to Haapamäki Station.
(Please allow approximately 3.5 hours for the journey, including at least two transfers.)
Round-trip transportation between Haapamäki Station and Taiken Tila is included in the accommodation price.
Free parking is also available on-site, so arriving by rental car is another convenient option.

Activities & Experiences

At Taiken Tila, you can enjoy a wide variety of activities
depending on the season.

Winter

In winter, ice fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, kick sledding, and sledding are popular activities.

Summer

In summer, swimming (especially nude swimming in secluded forest lakes), fishing, cycling, berry and mushroom picking, camping, and outdoor stays are popular activities.

Spring & Autumn

Activities in spring and autumn vary depending on snow conditions and temperature.
Upon request, we can also arrange horseback riding, guided fishing with a local expert,
or a visit to the world-renowned Serlachius Museums in Mänttä-Vilppula for an additional fee.

Prices

Sauna, bed linen, and towels included

If guests clean the facility themselves, no cleaning fee will be charged.

Staff

The Taiken Tila team consists of three members: Tarja, Risto, and Mari.
All of them live near Taiken Tila and work there alongside their other professions.
At Taiken Tila, they jointly take care of property maintenance, cleaning, cooking, and all other operations.

Tarja

Tarja works as a professional accountant and is responsible at Taiken Tila for finances, cooking, forest activities, as well as art and craft experiences.

Risto

Risto is the operator of Koivikon Hevostila and is responsible at Taiken Tila for hunting, fishing, camping, survival skills, bushcraft, and horse-related activities.

Mari

Mari holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and is Risto’s spouse.
She works as a university lecturer at the University of Oulu.Mari lived, studied, and worked in Fukuoka, Japan, for four years and speaks basic Japanese.
At Taiken Tila, she is responsible for horse-related, art, and painting activities, as well as advertising, social media, courses, and reservation management.

Axel (nicknamed Api) attended a Japanese elementary school for four years while living in Japan and speaks Japanese at a near-native level, including understanding the Hakata dialect.
